about

"I found myself wondering about Eunice, what she studied, how old she was, whether she was also graduating, whether she was going to California. I minimized WordPerfect, opened Netscape, and searched the university directory for the first name 'Eunice'. All eleven seemed to have the power of making me feel bad."--Elif Batuman, The Idiot

One of my favorite memories of buying music was getting cassingles with B-sides that didn't appear on the album. It made me feel like I was being let in on a secret. I had written this after I finished writing the album.

I wrote this after the songs for the album were completed and intended it to be a B-side. It was inspired by a conversation I overheard between two teenagers who were talking about their crushes and the sexier/better-looking people their crushes followed on social media. The conversation reminded me of this passage from The Idiot and how things haven't changed much since 1995.

lyrics

One Eunice wears brown lipstick
One Eunice bobbed her hair
One Eunice still wears braces
One Eunice got veneers

Eleven Eunices ride a cathode ray
Eleven Eunices pin me with their gaze
Ivan's not mine; did I cross a line
Eleven Eunices got me in a daze

Which Eunice knows your warm voice
Which Eunice speaks Chinese
Which Eunice dates a senior
Which Eunice shares your lease

Chorus

I catch my eye in the monitor's glare
Pink acne pockmarks and lank greasy hair
Would your Eunice's face crumble
If she saw the emails we share

Chorus; fade
